Can you share one story of a time when you truly felt Nimbler was creating community for your members?

One memorable example of Nimbler creating community and belonging for our members was when we launched Nimbler Lisbon from scratch. In the early days, we were improvising each month, trying to understand what our clients liked the most. I remember being a bit hesitant about organizing a surf session on a weekend because I wasn't sure if people would want to spend their weekend with the Nimbler crew too. However, to my surprise, the activity was a huge success. It sold out quickly, and we reached many people from diverse backgrounds, all coming together for the same purpose.

It was incredibly rewarding to see how something as simple as a surf session could bring our community together, fostering connections and creating a sense of belonging among our members. This experience reinforced our commitment to listening to our members and organizing activities that resonate with them, ultimately strengthening the bonds within our Nimbler family.

What challenges do you think coworking spaces face in fostering community?

Flexible Workspaces face several challenges in fostering a sense of community, primarily, flex workspaces attract individuals from diverse backgrounds, industries, and working styles. While diversity is a strength, it can also pose challenges in terms of finding common interests and facilitating meaningful interactions among members. Another challenge is the competition for attention. In a bustling environment where members are focused on their own work and projects, initiating conversations and building connections can be difficult.

Despite these challenges, coworking spaces have the opportunity to overcome barriers and foster a strong sense of community by implementing tailored strategies, prioritizing member engagement, and creating inclusive environments where all members feel valued and supported. By addressing these challenges head-on and actively investing in community-building efforts, coworking spaces can create vibrant and thriving communities that enrich the professional and personal lives of their members.

This is a very exciting time for the flex workspace industry. How do you see the future of coworking evolving?

The future of the flexible workspaces industry  is indeed an exciting frontier in the ever-evolving landscape of workspaces. As we navigate through an era marked by rapid technological advancements, shifting workforce demographics, and evolving work preferences, this industry  is poised to play an increasingly pivotal role in shaping the way we work and collaborate.

One significant trend Nimbler anticipates is the continued blurring of lines between work and life. With the rise of remote and flexible work arrangements, individuals are seeking environments that offer more than just a place to work—they crave spaces that foster community, creativity, and well-being. As a result, workspaces will evolve to become holistic ecosystems that prioritize not only productivity but also space design, flexibility, holistic wellness, offering amenities such as wellness rooms, meditation spaces, and fitness facilities to support the holistic needs of their members.

Technology will also continue to shape the future of coworking, with advancements such as IoT (Internet of Things), AI (Artificial Intelligence), and VR (Virtual Reality) enhancing the way we interact with physical spaces and enabling more seamless and personalized experiences for members. From smart office environments that adapt to individual preferences to virtual collaboration platforms that connect remote workers in immersive virtual environments, technology will play a central role in driving innovation and enhancing connectivity within coworking communities.

Ultimately, I believe that the future of coworking is shaped by human understanding and human touch, where coworking spaces prioritize understanding the diverse needs, preferences, and aspirations of their members. By fostering a sense of community and belonging, providing personalized experiences, and nurturing human connections, flex workspaces can create environments where members thrive, collaborate, and innovate together, redefining the way we work and interact in the digital age.
